About Alas
Alas Consulting Group partners with school systems to strengthen and transform special education through leadership development, systems evaluation, and strategic implementation.
Across the country, educators and school leaders are deeply committed to supporting students with disabilities, yet many districts continue to face persistent challenges. Fragmented service delivery, limited data analysis, and the ongoing demands of compliance can make it difficult for school systems to implement sustainable improvements that lead to stronger outcomes for students.
Alas Consulting Group was established to help districts move beyond compliance and toward system-wide excellence in special education. Our integrated approach combines the TF-Lens Framework, the TF-Oko data platform, and the WINGS Catalyst leadership program to help districts evaluate their current systems, strengthen leadership capacity, and implement strategic improvements. Together, these tools enable educators and administrators to align service delivery, use data more effectively, and build collaborative systems that support student success.
Our goal is simple yet powerful: to help school systems create environments where students with disabilities are supported, empowered, and given the opportunity to thrive.
The Challenges We Address
School systems across the country are deeply committed to supporting students with disabilities, yet many districts face persistent systemic challenges that make it difficult to achieve consistent and equitable outcomes. These challenges often stem from fragmented systems, limited data insights, and the complexity of aligning leadership, instruction, and service delivery. Alas Consulting Group works with educators and administrators to address these critical barriers by helping districts identify root causes and strengthen their special education systems.
Key challenges many school systems face include:
- Inconsistent data collection and analysis, making it difficult to identify areas where students and programs need additional support
- Fragmented special education systems, where services, leadership, and instructional strategies are not fully aligned
- Overemphasis on compliance requirements, which can limit time and resources for strategic improvement and innovation
- Limited collaboration across departments, particularly between general education and special education teams
- High workloads and turnover among special education staff, reducing opportunities for strategic planning and long-term program improvement
- Lack of structured frameworks for evaluating and improving special educationservices
The Problems We Solve
School systems across the country are deeply committed to supporting students with disabilities. Yet many districts continue to face persistent challenges in achieving equitable outcomes between students receiving special education services and those in general education.
While compliance with federal and state regulations remains essential, many systems struggle to move beyond compliance toward strategic improvement. Several systemic barriers often limit progress, including:
- Limited or inconsistent data collection and analysis
Many districts lack reliable processes for gathering, organizing, and analyzing data across special education programs. Without accurate data, leaders often struggle to identify root causes, measure program effectiveness, or determine where targeted improvements are needed.
- Fragmented data systems and reporting structures
Critical information related to student progress, service delivery, and program performance is often stored across multiple platforms or departments, making it difficult for leaders to develop a clear and unified picture of how well special education services are functioning.
- Insufficient use of data to guide decision-making
Even when data exists, it is not always used strategically to inform leadership decisions, instructional practices, or system improvements. This can result in missed opportunities to strengthen service delivery and improve outcomes for students.
- A gap between compliance and meaningful implementation
Many school systems devote significant time and resources to meeting regulatory requirements. However, compliance alone does not ensure that special education services are effective, aligned, or producing strong outcomes for students.
- Limited collaboration across departments and leadership teams
Special education often operates in isolation from general education, curriculum and instruction, or district leadership teams. This lack of alignment can create inconsistencies in service delivery and limit system-wide improvement efforts.
- High demands placed on special education staff
Special education leaders and educators frequently carry heavy caseloads and administrative responsibilities, leaving limited time for strategic planning, program evaluation, and long-term improvement efforts.
